What is more energy efficient? Keeping a home at 67 or 68 degrees or dropping the temp to 64 at night? ?

Does it take more energy to keep a house warm, or to bring the temperature back up in the morning? I currently use a programmable thermostat, but was just wondering if letting it drop too low would make the system work harder in the morning.
